Damien Echols Free After 17 Years

Damien Echols is one of the West Memphis 3.  At the age of 19 he was convicted for the murder of the three 8 year old boys in West Memphis, Arkansas and was sentenced to death through lethal injection. During his imprisonment he fostered a friendship with Pearl Jam vocalist, Eddie Vedder. He also managed to get married in 1999 to Lorrie Davis who was one of the long-time campaigners of the West Memphis 3.  Echols released his memoirs and other non-fiction works like a collection of poetry while serving time in jail.  Among his staunch supporters aside from Vedder were Marilyn Manson, Natalie Maines of the Dixie Chicks and the band, Disturbed.  Echols along with Jason Baldwin and Jessie Misskelley Jr. were released on August 19, 2011, on a suspended sentence of 10 years.
