Swearing or cursing, is what we commonly do when we’re in pain or in a situation we are not comfortable with. Like, when someone ridicules you in front of many people, yet you can’t talk back, you will just keep on thinking of it the whole day and continuously swearing alone. Did you know that the more you keep on swearing, the easier it is for you to let go of the pain? Researchers from Keele University concluded, that swearing lessens our perception of pain. Participants were asked to put their hands in a container of 41 degrees water and keep it there, they were continuously cursing. After doing this, researchers asked to rate the amount of pain they were in. Surprisingly, Researchers thought cursing would make the pain more painful, but the opposite occurred. From the way participants reacted, Psychologist concluded that swearing does help people withstand the pain or aggression they are in.
