The West Memphis 3 is composed of Damien Echols, Jessie Misskelley Jr. and Jason Baldwin.  The three of them were convicted in 1994 for killing three eight year-old boys in West Memphis, Arkansas. The conviction came even with the lack of substantial evidence presented by the prosecution. Echols was sentenced to death while Misskelley and Baldwin were sentenced to life imprisonment. In 2007 however, forensic evidence came out that proved that the DNA collected in the crime scene did not match any of the defendants. The emergence of this new evidence allowed the West Memphis 3 to enter the Alford pleas which Judge David Laser accepted. Echols, Misskelley and Baldwin have been released with a ten year suspended sentence; they were just teenagers when they were imprisoned.

Eddie Vedder rose to fame as the frontman of Pearl Jam.  His deep baritone voice became the trademark of the band.  Pearl Jam remains to be one of the biggest bands to emerge in the nineties with Vedder being one of the most widely-recognized faces of the grunge era. Vedder wrote the songs Jeremy, Daughter, Go, and Spin the Black Circle which won a Grammy for Best Hard Rock Performance.  Like most rock icons of the nineties, Vedder‘s known for his liberal political and social positions. In an interview done in the nineties, he also spoke against God and Christianity, labelling both as “not good.” He appeared in the nineties movie “Singles”.

Philander Rodman Jr., Dennis Rodman’s father is a small business owner in the Philippines.  Despite all the negative write-ups about how he abandoned Dennis, he enjoys a bit of fame just for being the NBA’s ‘bad boy’s’ father.  The senior Rodman shared that even if he did not see Dennis grow up, he still sees himself in Dennis, in a way that they’re both tough.  When Dennis was inducted in the Hall of Fame, he shared in his speech his anger towards his father who fathered 47 children. Philander however corrected his son in an interview by claiming that he only has 29 children.  The older Rodman also expressed his desire to talk to his son someday.  Dennis came to the Philippines in 2006 but his father did not attempt to see him.

American football enthusiasts all know who Brett Favre is.  He still holds the all-time record of the most consecutive starts in the NFL which is 297. His professional career began in 1991 and ended in January of 2011.  Favre currently holds about ten NFL records which most critics believe will be hard to surpass by any other player.  He’s played for four teams throughout his career.  He debuted with the Atlanta Falcons in 1991 then he moved on to Green Bay Packers for which he played 15 years, then he played for New York Jets for a year then the Minnesota Vikings until his retirement. His last appearance in an NFL game was on December 20, 2010 where he suffered a concussion after being sacked by opponent, Carey Whooton of the Chicago Bears.

Lebron James was already a buzz-worthy name prior to his debut.  His brilliance at playing basketball reminded everyone of the beginnings of Michael Jordan.  James freely expressed his admiration for the basketball great that his jersey number was the same as Jordan’s.  At the age of 19, he was drafted by the Cleveland Cavaliers and managed to become one of the three rookies in NBA history to score an average of 20 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists in their first season as players. However, despite his stellar performance the Cavaliers failed to make it to the play-offs. In 2010, he decided to become a free agent and opted to play for Miami Heat.  Despite the criticisms and other negative reactions to his decision, his decision finally landed him in the NBA Championship, something that never happened while he was still with the Cavs.

Current Governor of Texas, Rick Perry is the newest Republican nominee for 2012 US presidential election. Perry made his announcement last August 13, 2011. He used to be a democrat and was even one Al Gore’s campaign chairmen in the 1988 Democratic presidential primaries.  The following year however, Perry joined the Republican party. He served as Agricultural Commissioner from 1990 to 1998 and made significant changes by promoting Texas produce nationally and internationally. Perry ran for lieutenant governor of Texas against John Sharp and won just by a small margin. He began serving as lieutenant governor in 1999 then became governor of the state of Texas in 2000 when George W. Bush resigned to prepare for his presidential inauguration.

Michele Bachmann is presently the representative of Minnesota’s sixth congressional district.  She was born in Waterloo, Iowa but spent her growing up years in Anoka, Minnesota. She’s the first Republican to represent Minnesota in Congress.  She’s married to Marcus Bachmann who’s a clinical therapist and like her, a graduate of Regent University. They have five children but served as foster parents to 23 children, all girls.  Michele Bachman is a Republican nominee for the 2012 US presidential election. She announced her candidacy on June 27, 2011 in her hometown, Waterloo, Iowa.

College footall coach, Jim Tressel left Ohio State after ten successful seasons.  Tressel who’s the third winning-est coach of Ohio State University was forced to resign amidst scandal investigations involving some members of OSU’s football team and the association with Edward Rife.  Despite this, Tressel’s still one of the most respected football coaches in NCAA’s history.  He was known for his mild demeanor and diplomatic interaction with the media.  Dubbed both as “The Senator” and “Vest”, he easily set a mark for himself for being a different kind of coach. More information about the scandal he was involved with are surfacing but Tressel has not spoken to media since his resignation.  Former boss and colleagues are hoping he would make a comeback because he truly is one of the best coaches out there but the sanction from NCAA prohibits him from getting employed for the time being.
